Most homeschool moms will tell you academics are not the most important part of home education.
Character development is significantly more important than academics.
I would dare say this is where public schools are seriously lacking in today’s society.
Virtues aren’t something that can be taught from a book. Virtues must be instilled in children by loving parents who consistently strive to model good character themselves.
Finding a daily devotional for children that focuses on character development was a major part of our curriculum search. We wanted our children to learn what the Bible has to say about virtues and to use Biblical figures as role models.
We were incredibly picky and it was not an easy search. Finally, we decided on Day By Day Devotions: A year of character building devotions for kids by Karyn Henley.
We’ve used and loved this devotional for the past year.
Character development is crucial but not always the easiest subject to teach. The lessons in this book are short, but fun. My children learned so much during this study and I want to share it with you guys.
Each of you have been such a blessing to me since I began the Upside Down Homeschooling blog three and a half weeks ago. I want to say thank you for reading, commenting and sharing the blog with your friends.
I want to give one lucky winner a copy of Day by Day Devotions to use with your children. My prayer is that God will use this devotion to bless your family the way He used it to bless ours.
The giveaway will be open from today, Friday, July 6th- Monday July 8th @ 12:01 am. You may enter as many times as you would like. The winner will be announced by noon on Monday. Good luck!
** I have not done a review of this book for any company. I am not being compensated in any way. These are simply my opinions and the sole purpose of this giveaway is to share with my readers.

We will be studying virtues and character next year because I have largely ignored that area this year while trying to get our home school off the ground. My daughter and I have both suffered as a result and I want to be sure that we start with our focus on the Lord each day and keep Him in our home school each and every day.
We have also been looking for a good devotional to do daily with our four kiddos. This looks excellent! Thank you for the recommendation!
I am always trying to find a good devotional for my kiddos. This looks like it would fit the bill for us! Thank you for doing the giveaway!
This would be an awesome devotional to do with my 2 kids. Homeschooling and motherhood in general has shown me that virtues and character are more important than book smarts.
I am guilty of focusing more on the book-learning in our homeschool and pray that this year will be more focussed on character development. One of the main reasons we decided to homeschool is to nurture our relationships as a family and I feel that with the busyness of schooling, co-ops, classes, etc. we have lost sight of that. This devotional looks like a wonderful tool to bring our focus back to what is truly important for our children to learn – to love God, and love others.
I have struggled with this as well, Heather. Short and daily but fun and ‘on message’ seem like the key – sounds like you have found something that is all of these!
This would be perfect for adding more Bible time in our days.
I’ve been looking for new daily devotions for next year(have been using Keys for Kids). This would be great.
I have pulled my son out of private school and will be homeschooling him for the first time this year (6th grade). This book is exactly what I am looking for!!
We have searched off an on as well for a good daily devotional. For us Bible study will be a big part of our studies as we progress. Thank you for the review.
Thank you for the recommendation! Looking forward to checking it out with my 3 boys!
